Norton Field (Directions)
Norton Field
The Norton flying field is located on San Bernardino International Airport which was historically known as Norton Air Force Base. The paved runway is 490 feet long and can support about 15 fliers in the pit area at a time.
Flying Restrictions
The flying rules for the Norton field that have been a part of our contract with the airport include a wingspan limit of 81 inches and an engine size of 2.80 cu in. An altitude limit of 400 feet is strictly enforced. If you have any questions about this contact Paul Smith.
Directions to Norton Field
From the I-10 Freeway
Take the 210 freeway toward the “Mountain Resorts”. You will be going north and after 3 miles take the 5th street exit.
Go left (west) on 5th street to Palm Av.Go left (south) on Palm about one block and turn right (east) on 3rd St.
Go 0.7 miles and turn left into the airport. A green sign for the Forest Service Air Tanker Base marks the entrance. Immediately bear right on Y St and pass one yield sign. Stay LEFT and head toward another yield sign. At this point the field is straight ahead on the gravel road just past two large gravel piles.
An alternative from the I-10 freeway is to take Alabama street north to 3rd street and turn left. Continue to the field as above.
From the 210 Freeway
If you are approaching the San Bernardino area on the 210 East, continue toward Redlands. The freeway curves and heads south. Take the 5th street exit and turn right (west) on 5th St. Go to Palm Av. and turn left. Turn right on 3rd St and continue to the field as in the above directions.
