Asphalt Renewal Project

We need your help to keep our field in tip top condition!

As you all know our asphalt runway and aprons are twenty-five (25) years old. We reached the end of its life cycle; asphalt cannot be maintained any longer as the slurry coat will no longer adhere to the asphalt because of its age. This leaves us with a couple of options:

1. Do nothing and let the asphalt deteriorate before our eyes.

2. Be proactive and plan to address the condition of the asphalt

We had AMS Paving inspect and test our asphalt on Tuesday, March 26^th. Their recommendation, at this point in time, is to grind existing asphalt to a depth of 1 ½ inches. Clean and haul grinding to storage on our property, we use these grindings to maintain our entry roads. Clean surface, apply SS1H hot oil tack coat, and overlay with fresh asphalt. Machine roll for maximum compaction, layout and restripe the newly paved asphalt. The cost, drumroll please, $84k.

If we choose option 1. Do nothing and let the asphalt deteriorate, when it crumbles and we are forced to repair it will need to be completely removed, new aggregate base installed and paved with 3” of new asphalt. Cost, in the $188k to $220k range. Probably the end of our field as we know it.

The Board of Directors met on April 2, 2024, and approved the project, and we have a tentative date of May 7-9, 2024, for paving.

So let us talk about gathering the funds for this renewal of our field.
